( it's difficult to tell where a lot of this is coming from—as he says, they don't always understand each other. but he's got enough sense to grasp that there's some kind of depth behind this even if he can't touch its roots. at least he understands a reason: that it feels good. an easy thing to associate with because he's recognized as much within himself, muted as his emotions may have become in some ways.

maybe it's only a fraction. maybe the range of emotion he feels in a full day is equivalent to an hour's worth of them for Guanshan, but it doesn't make it untrue. )
